Do Fad Diets Work?

Believe it or not Fad diets do work, they work for a short period of time but thats about it. I would never recommend it to anybody because the results do not provide any long term value.

What is a fad diet?

A fad diet is a diet plan that is very restrictive or eating weird combination of foods for a short space of time in the hope of loosing weight quickly, however this isn't sustainable for your health or mental well being.

People tend to get fed up after a while because they cut out all their favourite foods in one swift go. The first week or two they tend to feel on top of the world then the withdrawals and craving start to set in. Once this happens they tend to get fed up with the restriction. They start going back to their old habits only this time they start eating more than they use to because they have been deprived of it. This can be very dangerous because it can destroy your relationship food.

Weight loss takes years, it's easy to lose weight but it's takes a different kind of discipline to keep it off. I have also participated in fad diets in the past trust me when i say it was a diseater. I use to eat peas and boiled eggs to dinner because I wanted to loose weight fast and some nights I wouldn't eat going to bed, I have cut carbs out completely before I stopped eating it for weeks because I taught it would help me lose weight fast. In the end I failed miserably at it and just went back to my old ways because the restriction left me with no energy.

Examples of Fad Diets

Gluten Free diets is a form of fad diets unless you suffer from Celiac Disease or have a gluten intolerance that may compromise your health if not you have no excuse cutting it out from your diet.

Replacing solid foods with any form of shakes is another example of a fad diet, it holds no long term value.

Elimination Diets do not work such as giving up dairy, alcohol, caffeine, carbs, sugar or takeaways. You will only get short term happiness from giving it up and when I mean short term I am talking about 2 weeks maximum then you go back binging uncontrollably.

It's important to have the right advice or mentor when you seek weight loss because the wrong advice can have a very negative affect on your health.

Run far away from anybody that gives advice that include the word "secret" or "magic". if it sounds too good to be true then its probably too good to be true.

If you want to loose weight, the most sustainable way todo so is by being in a caloric deficit with no restrictions on the food you eat. Your weight loss journey should be enjoyable but also challenging. Once you're willing to learn and open minded about new ways of doing things you will get results its just a matter of time.

Everybody has to take their health serious at some stage of their life, nobody is above it. Till the day you die you must make sure that your health remains your number one priority, if you don't life will humble you financially, emotionally and physically.
